How differently would your child experience school if he or she had a strong foundation in the core learning areas: reading, comprehension, and math?
At Bright Brain Studio, students develop a stronger foundation in these core areas, allowing them to connect and flourish in school. Rather than just teaching strategies and memory games, my intensive one-to-one brain training strengthens the way the brain processes information. The results are permanent and powerful.
What
With One-to-One instruction, I work directly with your child using a customized plan designed to really address and strengthen the parts of the brain that need to be working together. Each student’s needs are different and my instruction is nimble and flexible. By seeing students individually, I can craft a plan exactly right for your child.
Who
I work with students from kindergarten through college. However, my primary client base is in elementary school. Students stop receiving direct instruction in the core learning areas after about third grade. It’s at that transition that it becomes clear a child may not “catch up” on his or her own.
Your child would benefit from one-to-one instruction if he or she is struggling with the core learning areas – reading, comprehension, and/or math – and may be several years behind in skill level. While some students who sign up have a learning disability diagnosis, others do not.
Where
I am a traveling instructor! Once we determine what kind of instruction your child might benefit from, we’ll work out a location at which to work – either a space you or I provide.
When
One-to-one instruciton is intense. The brain is a muscle. In order to make extraordinary gains, my students attend one-to-one for twenty hours a week. The number of weeks varies depending on the program and the student’s current abilities.
And this model really works!
I’ve tested other variations – fewer hours a week, fewer days a week, rotating instructors each hour, etc. Students make the most gains when they have one instructor for the full 20 hours.
We can do instruction in the mornings or afternoons, depending on your preferred schedule and my availability.
Tuition is $900 a week. (Most students complete instruction in 4-6 weeks.)
Why
Have you noticed that your child keeps improving a little, but never to the point of closing the gap and feeling really confident? That’s because school curricula are designed to help a student develop a year’s growth in a year. Special education programs look for ways to lessen the burden on struggling students, but don’t really hasten the learning process.
My one-to-one program, grounded in Lindamood-Bell techniques, allows most students to make 1-3 years gain in a core learning area in about six weeks.
I mentioned it was intense, right?
How
Ok, here’s the really nerdy part. The brain learns through sensory information. We use auditory, visual, and kinesthetic inputs to connect with reading and math. We use visual processing to understand language and communicate.
In one-to-one instruction, I identify the sensory-cognitive areas that are strong or weak for your child. I systematically strengthen the weaker links so that the whole system can be engaged for learning. And because I’m really talking about building new neural pathways that link the parts of the brain that process sensory information, the result is both permanent and dramatic.
Ok, so how does this work?
One-to-one instruction is a big commitment for you and your child. I understand that you are making an investment in time and money to give your child the opportunity to reach his or her potential.
Let’s have a conversation first to determine if one-to-one is the right fit for your child. We’ll meet for about an hour and review your child’s academic history. You can share test scores and other data you might have.
If one-to-one instruction is a good fit, we can look at finding a block of time that fits into your schedule and mine. One-to-one is designed to be completed in consecutive weeks with as few breaks as possible.
And the best part (other than your child developing super strong skills, of course!) is that the tuition is all inclusive. In addition to all program materials, you also receive regular updates and parent trainings. I’ll also be happy to visit with your child’s teacher or school team so that we can coordinate the transition back into the classroom.
I am currently scheduling for September and October 2012.
